The Healing Power of Laughter: How Humor Boosts Your Well-being

Have you ever been sad or depressed and felt a nudge from your body to watch a funny movie? Did you listen to the nudge and watch the movie? Funny movies can transport you to another world away from all the chaos life has to offer.

I enjoy watching funny movies. I laugh so hard that my vibration is lifted, and I forget about the thing that bothered me. I feel so much better, and I can feel my heart center opening, my upper body muscles relaxing and the tightness in my face melt away and the healing from within.

There’s a famous story about Norman Cousins an American journalist, author, and professor who was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, a painful and debilitating

autoimmune disease. He used laughter to get relief and improve his overall-being. He found that watching comedy films and engaging in laughter helped alleviate his symptoms. He famously said that ten minutes of genuine belly laughter would provide him with two hours of pain-free sleep.

I’m so blessed to have a granddaughter! I was present at her birth and when she emerged into the world she mouthed the word, “hello” to me. She would laugh because she could, and she would make me laugh and I would feel better. I’m so grateful to have her presence in my life.

I want to leave you with a joke or two.

Why don’t scientists trust atoms? Because they make up everything! Why did the golfer bring two pairs of pants? In case he got a hole in one!

What do you do for laughter?
